Abstract:

Khor Abu Habil Watershed represents the main source of water in North Khordofan state and plays a considerable role in domestic, industrial, agricultural and economic development in the state. The main objective of the study is to evaluate the groundwater potentiality in khor Abu Habil drainage basin. The Vertical- Electrical Sounding (VES) and horizontal electrical profile (HEP) techniques, were used to determine the groundwater occurrence, aquifer extensions, thicknesses and depths. Aqua-test, Surfer (8), Arc veiw (3.2a), ENV 4.2 and Corel Draw, techniques were used for aquifer parameter calculations, maps preparation, land-sat image enhancements and interpretation. The groundwater system constitutes, alluvial; sedimentary aquifers as well as weathered and fractured crystalline rock aquifers. The main aquifers include the upper and lower Umm Ruwaba aquifer, and alluvial aquifers. Weathered and fractured rocks aquifer are of relatively insignificant role. unconfined and semi confined to completely confined aquifers condition were detected. Drainage, Geological, Borehole locations, water level maps were constructed. The transmissivity (T) values range from 22.5 to 79.4 m2/d, the hydraulic conductivity ranges from 0.082 to 5.42 m/d. The storativity ranges from 0.005 to 0.2. The depth to water table ranges from 2 to 87 m. The general flow direction is from south west to northeast with the average hydraulic gradient of 0.005, as delineated from the constructed water level contour map, of the study area.
