Abstract:
Integration of distributed renewable energy sources is essential to achieve high system reliability and efficiency ofmicrogrids and smart grids. Energy storage system helps to connect large scale of renewable sources and meetscustomer needs by decreasing the total customer interruptions. An optimal sizing strategy for a Battery Energy StorageSystem (BESS) in a Hybrid PV, Wind Power and diesel generator power system with aiming of minimizing theoperating cost of the system is presented in this work. For optimization of total cost and optimal sizing, a MPSOalgorithm is used. The decision variables consist of number of PV panels, wind turbines, and batteries are optimized byuse of MPSO algorithm for having a cost-effective hybrid system. Simulation results in Matlab software show thateffectiveness of the proposed scheme in minimization of generating cost and optimal sizing.
