Abstract:
Medical curriculum can exposed the medical students to a significant levels of mental pressure. Therefore, the prevalence and incidence ofpsychiatric disorders including abnormal value of stress, depression and anxiety are higher in the schools of medicine. There are two majortypes of sources that can lead to stress and further mental problems in the medical students: 1. stresses related to the university and 2.individual features of the students themselves. This high level of mental pressure has various consequences which may lead to furtherproblems including drug abuse, smoking, alcohol drinking, academic failure, sleep disorders and suicide. Thus, it is important to manage stressand its consequences in medical schools. In this paper, we review the prevalence, manifestations, causes, consequences and proposedapproaches to decrease student distress.
