Abstract:

LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 (NCA) is one of the most used materials as an active material in cathode electrode of Li-ion batteries with long cycle-life. NCA can be synthesized via different methods (such as sol-gel and solid state) and different precursors, and therefore, morphology of obtained NCA can be changed. In this paper, three grades of NCA prepared from two companies were investigated electrochemically during 20 charge/discharge cycles. For this purpose, cathode electrodes containing NCA material prepared in two different thicknesses. Then, coin cells including these cathodes and lithium chip as anode were assembled and tested at C/2 rate. Results show that one of the materials of Targray Company has the highest specific capacity and retention of capacity in both thicknesses
