Synthesis, characterization and X-ray crystallography of a copper (II) complex containing symmetrical diaminomaleonitrile-based Schiffbase ligand

One Cu(II) complex derived from a symmetrical diaminomaleonitrile-based Schiff base ligand was obtained in DMSO in one-pot syntheses. The complex was characterized by FT IR,UV-Vis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The geometry of the Cu(II) complex was square planar. Ligand was N2O2 -tetradentate coordinated to the metal atom through both the azomethine N atoms and phenolic O atoms
