Abstract:

Equine Influenza (Horse flu) is the disease caused by strains of influenza that are endemic in horse species. Equine Influenza (EI) occurs globally ,and is caused by two main strains of virus equine -1 (H7N7) and equine -2 (H3N8) .The disease has nearly 100% infection rate in an unvaccinated horse population that has not been previously exposed to the virus. The impact of an outbreak amongst even the animal population is devastating today. The first outbreak of EI occurred among hoses of varying ages in race club near Isfahan Province of Iran and very soon extended to other horse races in Tehran province in 1379 The affected horses exhibited respiratory infection with high morbidity (60%) with clinical symptoms as purulent nasal discharge ,fever ,and lacrimation were the most common signs, In addition to, some pregnant mare also was aborted laboratory tests such as Agar Gel immune Diffusion Test (AGIDT) using A1,A2 antiserum and monoclonal antibody (MAB) Elisa tests proved that horse flu is happened and the IFV was the cause of abortion and revealed the presence of the virus in the suspected swab samples that were taken in acute phase and in convalescent periods and dispatched to Razi institute ,animal viral diseases Reseach and diagnosis department .It is necessary to note that all confirmative tests such as HA,HI. SN and SRH were positive .So It is necessary to think of producing homolog or heterolog EI vaccine
