Abstract:

Although many investigations have been carried out on high performance concrete (HPC), properties of this material aren’t well known those of ordinary concrete (OC) nowadays. On the other hand, current national and international codes, related to reinforced concrete, are usually prepared by evaluating the results of experimental andtheoretical studies together on OC with lower compressive strength than 40 MPa. Thus it isn’t possible to say that equations and recommendations given in these codes are valid for HPC. The main purpose of this study is to investigate bond behavior of OC and HPC in bending using Standard Belgium Hinge Beam Test (SBHBT), comparatively. The results obtained from this study show that bond strength of HPC is considerable higher than that of OC. Therefore, development length 0f used for OC can be decreased in case of HPC usage. This result shows that Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete is not valid designing of structures constructed by using HPC.
