Abstract:
Existing concrete frame buildings have been recognized as being susceptable to damage from seismic activity. This paper reviews the results of some recent works conducted on new methods of retrofitting the RC frames The new methods of retrofitting the RC frames include those carried out recently on global retrofit of RC frames using directinternal steel bracing and steel shear walls. Results of inelastic pushover analyses on RC frames, directly braced by steel BRB braces and shear wall are presented which indicate that such bracings can increase the yield and strength capacities energy absorption and reduce the global displacements of the frames to the desired levels. Finally, the values of seismic parameters for this type of brace/frame system, evaluated from inelastic pushover analysis of dual systems
