Abstract:

Todays, the use of pesticides in agriculture is inevitable and these chemical substances have negative effects on all living organisms. Regarding the type of pesticide, the duration of exposure and its dosage, exposed humans to these toxins show damaged in their organs, especially in the reproductive system. In this research, we investigated the effect of Flonicamid on spermatogenesis process. To fulfill this task, adult male NMRI mice with 10 weeks old were divided into 3 groups, Group 1: Control which received nothing. Group 2: were injected intraperitoneally with 25 mg/kg Flonicamid for 21 days and group 3: were injected intraperitoneally with 50 mg/ kg Flonicamid for 21 days. After treatments, the mice were sacrificed by displacement of the cervical vertebrae. Testes were removed for histomorphological parameters studies. Histological studies showed that Flonicamid significantly reduced the number of Sertoli cells, spermatogonia, primary spermatocytes, round and elongated spermatids in Flonicamid-received groups and this reduction was higher in 50 mg/kg compared to the group which received the lower dose. According to our results, it seems that Flonicamid act as a toxin for the spermatogenesis process and its effect is dependent on dose and as dose increases the level of damage become higher.
