This paper describes the synthesis of star like poly (dimethylaminoethyl-L- glutamin), a cationic polyglutamic acid derivatives. Biocompatibility, biodegradability and water solubility of this polymer make it a suitable carrier for gene delivery. N-carboxyanhydride (NCA) is synthesized as starting monomer from -benzyl-L-glutamate. Finally, three arms poly (dimethylaminoethyl-L- glutamin) was synthesized by aminolysis of poly ( -benzyl-Lglutamate) which was obtained by polymerization of corresponding NCA and 2-dimethylaminoethylamine as initiator. PGL3 was used as a plasmid DNA for evaluation of polymer ability to condense DNA. Data obtained by gel electrophoresis assay show clearly that the new polymer can self assemble and form polyelectrolyte complexes with DNA to reduce their size to 150nm which is suitable size to transfect into the cells.
