Preparedness against bioterrorism and biological incidents, the role of emergency medical personnel

Abstract:

Introduction: Following the events of September 11, 2001, the threat of another bioterrorism event has become a realistic concern for health care workers. Among the employees of Iran s health system, EMS personnel policy due to its activity first of all on the scene of the accident to deal with pre- hospital care. Therefore, EMS personnel have the necessary knowledge and prepare to deal with biological threats and a biological emergency to identify and react quickly. Methods: We searched all epidemiological studies from 1960 to 2016 in electronicdatabases. We found 87 studies. Only 15 observational studies out of these studies met the inclusion criteria of the study. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the strengthening the reporting of observational studies in epidemiology (STROBE) checklist.Results: The findings of this study showed that among health personnel in Iran especially nurses and emergency medical personnel 73.3% any practical training on how to deal with bioterrorism events are not biological contamination. Also, 86.6% of personnel health system in Iran has no knowledge of the deal were not Bioterrorism and Disaster Management. In addition, most educational needs raised by nurses andemergency medical personnel 93.3% have been associated with biological agents and bioterrorism.Conclusion: According to the study of health care workers at all levels is an important educational need in bioterrorism attacks with biological incidents. The problem of the lack of enough training and consequently the lack of awareness and preparedness among emergency personnel due to the inherent nature of its activities is felt. Therefore, the design and implementation of training courses and special courses to betaught in universities biological attacks. And refresher courses are held at appropriate intervals.
