Application of the principles and procedures of Environmental Health Engineering in Disaster and Emergencies: review article

Background & Objectives: Disasters and Events have a Complex Dimensions and consequences. Iran is exposed to many Natural and Man-made hazards. Environmental Health Service is one of the most essential actions for the needs in disasters. Therefore, this study with aim of survey Role of Environmental Health Engineering in disaster and Emergencies was performed.Materials and methods: This research is a Review study. Therefore, Application of Environmental Health Engineering in Published Articles in SID, from experience of major events and disasters happened in the country over the past decades, also with research in data bases such as PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, Springer Link, Taylor & Francis Online, web of knowledge have been studied. In addition Documents, policies, laws and Strategic and operational plans including EOP, Roadmap of disaster risk management, Guidelines Environmental and Occupational Health Center were examined. The key words are searched, including Environmental, Health, Engineering, Disaster, and Emergencies, Management,water, Wastewater, safety, control and etc. Results: Results showed in the all of in all sources studied; clearly the role and importance ofthe principles of environmental health are discussed. The role of environmental health in disaster actions such as: Environmental pathogens control, Carriers control, providing safe drinking water, Wastewater management, Organize and create the campsite and shelter, Healthand Food Safety, Waste management and Intervention in chemical, biological and nuclear disasters.Conclusion: Environmental Health Management and Operations actions Plays an important role in all of the disaster management cycle inclusive Prevention, Preparedness, Mitigation Response and Recovery. Scientific and practical action should be done by Officials and expertsto develop and use environmental health principles and procedures in disasters
