Abstract:

Background: Multiple changes happen in disasters affect different aspects of family functions. The family is a unique social unit which fulfills the function of integrating its members in society therefore many aspects (domains) of family function and its predictors are context bounded. This article begins by considering people experiences in family, particularly in the regions affected by the disaster in Iran.Method: To shed light on this issue a qualitative study design incorporating content analysis was selected. In-depth, semi-structured interviews were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using qualitative (latent) content analysis on the data written in Persian, before translation. Results: In the process of data analysis, three categories finally emerged: 1- Family structure (Reconstruction) including two subcategories: Reunification and Parental Intention, 2- Family relations with three subcategories: Pattern of relations, Expectations and Feeling express (communication),and finally 3- Family vitality including Commitment and Dynamic(Social Relations). Conclusion: Family function is defined as the extent to which a family operates as a unit to cope with stressors. The paper concludes by arguing that greater exploration is necessary to improve families experiences during the emergency response and the post-disaster period.
