This paper presents a discrete event modeling tool to assist design and implementation RFID based identifying and tracking system in hospital surgical wards. The simulation model allows hospital managers to realize the effects of RFID technology implementation, rather than making stress with running the technology in real environment, to get the same result.RFID system is used in several hospitals for tracking patients, equipment and staffs in several cases. RFID implementation had useful results in improving hospital processes. But in Iranian hospitals it has not been run yet.The environment modeled here is a ward in HashemiNejad Kidney Center, with emphasis on patients tracking. The work extends some RFID utilities beyond patient identification and tracking for surgery process in hospital. After simulation managers could see RFID ability and advantages implementation in their environment. This paper considers an improved approach for planning and designing hospitals by using Discrete Event Simulation (DES) by enabling improvement in the quality, productivity and improved workplace environment for staff in health services for surgery patients. Using simulation for visualizing the real process with RFID for confiding the hospital managers is a new approach for describing the effect of new technology implementation in healthcare
