Abstract:

Down syndrome (DS) or trisomy 21 is the most common chromosomal disorder with the occurrence estimated between one in 1000 to one in 700 live births in the world [1]. In recent years many of researchers have tended to diagnosis diseases using neural networks and fuzzy systems (FS), because these technologies can improveaccuracy and process of diagnosis diseases. As yet there is no paper for prediction or diagnosis DS using neural networks or FS. In this study we presented a method for prediction the risk of DS in first trimester screening (11-14 weeks) of pregnancy using FS. We used six essentials symptoms of DS for prediction the estimated risk of DS and applied 40 fuzzy rules to achieve the most accurate results in Matlab Software. In this paper we considered the parameters such as nuchal translucency (NT), two maternal serum biochemical markers, PAPP-A, Beta-hCG, maternal age, etc. We used 100 clinical cases to obtain the most accurate result. We observed that our method indicated 87.5% accuracy of the results.
