Abstract:

IntroductionAnalyses of adverse events in health care have found that many underlying causes originate from failures in non-technical aspects of performance.Effective teamwork is increasingly recognized as important mechanism for increasing the safety of health care. This is very important in high-risk environments such as operating room. Preventable errors in the operating room are a major cause of patient injury. Poor teamwork and communication between members of OR team has been implicated as the most common cause .of preventable errors. purpose of this study is to clarify the importance of teamwork in the operating room Material & Methods This integrated review study was conducted with extensive search using the key words in the Medline, Pubmed, SID, Magiran,Google Scholar databases. total of 30 articles published between 1990 and 2018 on the subject, definition of teamwork and surgical team, theoretical dimension teamwork and surgicalteam and importance of teamwork in the operating room were studied based on the content analysis .process Results People need to learn how to work together and understand the roles and responsibilities of themselves and other team members in order for individuals to act as effective member of the team.Study of Behavior in operating room show that failure of non-technical skills such as teamwork in the operating roomare not uncommon and can cause poor results and cause heavy damages.Psychological research on the mental models of teams recommend that OR teams should be ideally integrated in order to maximize their performance.Team members must possess specific knowledge, skills, and attitudes, such as the ability to .exchange information, which enable individual team members to coordinate Conclusion To improve the surgical teamwork, training can be used to enhance the non-technical skills of the surgi- .cal team members
