Abstract:

Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are interesting class of materials with high crystallinity and porosity. They are used for several potential applications, like gas separation and catalysis. Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) are a new sub-family of porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) of imidazolate linkers and metal ions with structures similar to conventional aluminosilicate zeolites. Their porous structures and exceptional thermal and chemical stabilities, have led to a wide range of potential applications for various ZIF materials. In this research, the effect of solvent on the facile method for the preparation of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 material was presented. ZIF-8 can be readily synthesized by different solvent without any other additives at room temperature. The resultant ZIF-8 samples were characterized using Xray diffraction and nitrogen physisorption and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The results exhibited that highly crystalline and porosity ZIF-8 was successfully synthesized within methanol as solvent with the BET surface area up to 1561 m2/g and total pore volume of 0.95 cm3/g.
