Abstract:

In this work, Dy0.5Sr0.5MnO3/Dy2O3 nanocomposites have been successfully produced by combustion route. First, a sol of Dy0.5Sr0.5MnO3/Dy2O3 nanocomposite was obtained, from metal nitrates and maltose as fuel. Second, sol heated at 120 °C until the gel is formed. Then obtained gel calcined at 900 °C for 5 h. In order to examine the effect of the kind of fouls on morphology and particle size, the Dy0.5Sr0.5MnO3/Dy2O3 samples were prepared by applying the maltose and fructose. The as-synthesized Dy0.5Sr0.5MnO3 nanocomposite were characterized by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy and. The XRD pattern of) show perovskite DyMnO3 phase with an amount of dysprosium oxide. The mean crystallite sizes of the sample synthesized at 900 °C estimated by the Scherer formula is 26 nm. Moreover, the photocatalytic performance of as-prepared Dy0.5Sr0.5MnO3 nanocomposite was evaluated by photo degradation of methylene blue and acid red dyes as water contaminants under ultraviolet light illumination. Result proposes the as-synthesized octahedron Dy0.5Sr0.5MnO3/Dy2O3 nanocomposites as an efficient candidate for photocatalytic applications under ultraviolet light.
