Abstract:

Since in the modern building industry, speed and quality are two important factors affecting the structures construction methods, industrial construction has been greatly considered. One of the engineers choices for industrial execution is lightweight steel frame buildings, called LSFs. LSF structures are made from cold rolled steel, which its use is rapidly increasing in the world. In addition, the combination of a steel frame with a LSF structure reduces some of the construction constraints, such as stairs construction and the use of the hardness of the steel frame improves the structure s seismic resistance. For this purpose, in the present study, the required design parameters, including the ductility factor and the behavior factor of these composite structures have been studied using nonlinear static analysis. According to the results of this study, it is recommended to use a composite structure when using a steel moment frame combined with LSF in such a way that the stiffness of the moment frame remains about half the stiffness of the LSF. Under such conditions, it can be expected that the composite structure have acceptable performance in both strength and ductility.
