خلاصه مقاله:
Translations Studies, as a discipline, seeks to improve the quality of translators’ works by considering relevant theories and implication of different strategies. In this regard, assessing or evaluating the quality of translations has always been a contentious issue in the field. Different Translation Quality Assessment (TQA) models were developed by scholars according to the norms that were established by dominant translation theories of the time. This study aims to develop a more comprehensive TQA approach through simultaneous application of Williams’s TQA framework (2009) and House’s functional-pragmatic model of translation assessment (2001) for micro-level and macro-level analyses respectively. Williams’s and House’s TQA models are largely based on argumentation theory and Halliday’s systemic functional theory, respectively. First, the mentioned models were combined in order to devise a TQA method that includes both quantitative and qualitative analyses. Then, it was applied for assessing the quality of an extracted chapter from an English-Persian translation of ‘Our Mutual Friend’ written by Charles Dickens and translated by Abdolhossein Sharifian in 2010. The results show that such multimodel assessment would produce more accurate reviews, particularly thanks to its quantitative-qualitative approach. The implementation of this TQA model with its upper-level and lower-level strategies in evaluating translations would improve the quality of translators’ work, hence developing proper intercultural understandings
