Background: Amputation is one of the most physically and emotionally disturbing events an individual can experience. As the result of disease, trauma, congenital defects, and other event the aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing on the phantom limb pain of women suffering from amputation Methods: This study was a randomized-controlled trial. A total of 18 women with amputations were selected by a purposive sampling and were divided randomly into two intervention and control groups.Samples were assigned through randomized allocation.EMDR therapy was administered individually to the intervention group participants in 12 one-hour sessions over a 1-month period, In each session, the patient completed the pain-rating scale before and after the intervention. The participants in the control group were measured on the scale at an initial session and again after 1- month Results: The mean PLP decreased in the intervention group between the first and last sessions. No decrease occurred for the control group over the 1 month period. The differences were statistically significant (P<0.001).Conclusion: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy proved to be a successful treatment for PLP. It provides useful information for psychologists and researchers who use this therapeutic option to reduce PLP.
