Abstract:

UNFPA Iran in partnership with MoH&ME Iran has designed andimplemented a project for improving Maternal Health for AfghanRefugees Living in Iran. In addition through south- southcooperation, MoH in Afghanistan and Iran in partnership withUNFPA developed midwifery department in Kabul medicaluniversity.Through this project UNFPA has been able to build the capacityof afghan young women, improve maternal health of Afghanrefugees in Iran by developing an Afghan-friendly maternityward at a South Tehran hospital and train 50 Afghan refugeewomen in midwifery competencies as community midwives toenhance repatriation and reintegration prospects in Afghanistan.Reducing maternal mortality among Afghan refugeecommunities will enhance access to safe delivery services inorder to protect the lives and health of mother who can bring moresustainable and peaceful families and resilient communities.
