Abstract:

One of the considered solutions to solve the openings problem of bracing systems without any architectural disruption is Y-shaped bracing .Y-shaped bracing geometrically are similar to chevron bracing but the difference is that the main element of bracing is not straight and gets out of its main axis. The created fracture site is connected to the beam-column joints by a third member. This research firstly focuses on the history of the related subjects then the system is modeled by finite element approach and verified by experimental results and other previous literature. This research evaluates the behavior factor, stiffness, ductility coefficient and the rate of damping energy and so on. The results of this study are including; increasing parameters such as stiffness, excessive strength coefficient, allowable stress coefficient and decreasing of plastic deformation, the initial stiffness of the structure and the structural behavior factor. In this system, there is possibility of outside buckling while applying the compressive load that should be considered in the design stage.
