Abstract:

Romanticism, a literary school in which pantheism andnature are key concerns, expresses that there is a divine presence inall creatures and as a result, nature is regarded as a purification source. The present paper made an attempt to explore common groundsbetween William Wordsworth, the great English poet, and SohrabSepehri, the great Iranian poet by examining The Tintern Abbey and The Water Footsteps . The study demonstrated that the two poemsunder discussion share many romantic principles such as praisingnature, individuality and feelings. Comparative literature is the majorbranch of literature in today s world and it can be said that it has a longantecedent. Comparative study of writers and poets among culturesand different countries could be the examination of the impact of ideasand thoughts that different cultures have on each other. SohrabSepehri, the prominent contemporary poet and William Wordsworth, the founder of English romantic poetry, in this comparative study havebeen analyzed. Using some of the principles of romanticism is one ofthe most common features of poems by Sohrab Sepehri and WilliamWordsworth. This study is based on several hypotheses underlyingromanticism: 1. Nature and childhood nostalgia 2. Paying attention tounknown spaces and death 3.Humanism, individuality andintrospection, and the emergence of the poet-prophet 4.Interest in thebirthplace of poet. Achievement of this study indicates that the set offactors mentioned above concerning the principles of Romanticism, are prominently reflected in the works of these poets, so Sepehri spoems can be considered in a row, very close to Wordsworth s poems.
