The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of pre-teaching key words andfeatures (some basic structures) as a help-giving strategy in comprehending Arabic texts. Tothis purpose, two intact groups (number of each was 17) were chosen. They had a mean age of16. They were divided into two groups, the experimental group and the control group. Somewritten texts were taught to both groups. Unfamiliar words and forms in the texts were taughtto the experimental group while the control group had to consult to the dictionary in order tocope with the meaning of unfamiliar words, and no forms were taught. The results of thepretest and posttest in data analysis through statistical procedure of Independent pair T-testconfirmed the superiority of the experimental group to the control group, resulting in theconclusion that Pre-teaching Vocabulary Words and forms technique has a significant effecton improving Iranian EFL learners reading comprehension. The findings support thearguments regarding the importance of Pre-teaching Vocabulary Words and forms instructionto comprehend the texts better and to give learners a sense of accomplishment.
