Abstract:

In the present work, an experimental study is conducted to investigate the performance of lightly reinforced concrete flanged beams with stirrups having triangular shape under two-point static loading. Such beams are considered as the basic units of the reinforced concrete ribbed slabs with lightweight filling blocks.Six beams are tested in addition to the control one. Three parameters have been considered. These parameters are strength of concrete; (24, 36, 46) MPa, the span of beam;(1.50, 1.75, 2.00) m and the configuration of shear reinforcement;(closed, zigzag, spiral). Results stated that these parameters have considerable effects on the cracking load, ultimate load, type of cracking and the mode of failure. Some of the conclusions are that using zigzag shear reinforcement results in stiffer response along most of loading stages whereas the spiral type yielded more ductile behavior. In addition, it was found that ultimate capacity and maximum deflection have been improved by 9% and 37% respectively using the zigzag type of stirrups. While, adopting the spiral type of shear reinforcement results in improvements by 21% and 89% respectively.
