Background: According to higher rates of IUGR in women with beta-thalassemia minor, and role of CRP level in prediction of pregnant women developed with IUGR. The objective of the present study was to determined relationship between elevated CRP and IUGR in pregnant ladies affected by minor B-thalassemia. Materials and Methods: The study was designed as a prospective case-control one which was conducted on pregnant women referred to Motahari obstetric clinic of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences from March 2015 to February 2016. The pregnant women in case group were β-thalassemia minor and healthy pregnant women was considered as control group. CRP levels and IUGR were investigated and compared between both group at first and third trimesters. Results: Finally, 122 thalassemia and 121 healthy pregnant women were analyzed and compared. In both study group, the most of mothers aged between 19-35 years. In first and third trimesters, women with β-thalassemia minor were favored to IUGR in sonography, were significantly higher than control group. Positive CRP in first trimester was significantly related to IUGR in mothers with minor thalassemia (P<0.001), but this correlation was not significant in third trimester.Conclusion: In conclusion, higher rates of IUGR were found among thalassemic women. On the other hand, there are a positive correlation between elevated CRP and IUGR in thalassemic women at first trimester.
