Abstract:

Background and Objectives: Pregnancy and childbirth are concerned as a natural occurrence in the life cycle women. However, although pregnancy is a normal function, but at the same time considered as a full stress experience. This experience is associated with extensive psychological and physical changes in pregnant women. Pregnancy also associated with Changes in hormones and can increase the incidence or relapse of depression. Depression varies from 10% to 30% during pregnancy. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of pelvic floor muscle exercises on depression in pregnant women.Method and Materials: This study is a randomized controlled trial in which pregnant women in shiraz city in 2018 were participated. 26 patients were selected using the non-random sampling method but they were divided into two groups of test and a group of control using block randomization. A pelvic floor muscle training program that was performed on the basis of protocol for 8 weeks, twice a day. beck depression Questionnaire used. Data were collected before the interventions and two weeks after ones. Data were analyzed using SPSS software through descriptive and inferential statistics considering the 95% confidence interval.Results: Results revealed that pelvic floor muscle exercises had significance effect on depression in pregnant women (p≤0.05).Conclusion: pelvic floor muscle exercises had a positive effect on depression in pregnant women the and led to a significant improvement in this women. This method can be used as a part of the routine therapeutic measures for them
