A Study on the Trend of 'Smart Grid' Development in Korea

The electric power industry acts up to the expectation of enormous change now according to the worldwide efforts and policies to comply with the request for the protection of environment. Those are the policies for efficient energy consumption by not only the connection of IT technology toexisting electric power grid, but also the development of power source using new kinds of fuel and new method for customer's participation. Each country has vision to make its own 'Smart Grid' suitable for its position. To succeed in realizing its own 'Smart Grid', it is not enough to follow thecommon architecture like 'IntelliGrid' but each country that wants to succeed in 'Smart Grid' must establish its own industrial standards by accurate strategy. Lots of trial & error may happen in this process. Researches are essential for 'Smart Grid'. The components of 'Smart Grid' must be developed to realize it absolutely. However, it is not easy task. It is needed to analyze and standardize various components of 'Smart Grid'.
