Abstract:

Background and Purpose:Gastric cancer is the abnormal proliferation of malignant cells in the stomach, which often has no warning signs until the disease progresses .About 7300 new cases of gastric cancer are reported every year in Iran. The incidence of this cancer in Iran is 26.1 in men and 11.1 in women per 100,000 people. This study has been conducted with a view to the significant prevalence of this cancer in the world and Iran, and a small amount of studies in Iran have been conducted to assess the survival rate and to take histological markers.materials and methods:This study is a descriptive-analytic study and The study population included 80 patients with gastric cancer, adenocarcinoma. Samples obtained from endoscopy of patients during 2010-2015 were extracted from paraffin blocks in the pathology department of the Persian Gulf martyr Hospital of Bushehr. HER-2 gene expression was investigated by IHC and analyzed by SPSS.Finding:80 patients examined, 53 (66.3%) were male and 27 (33.7%) were female, and 12 were excluded due to lack of tissue samples. 7 (10.3%) patients expressed HER-2 mutation that were possitive in IHC. 61 (89.7%) patients were reported as negative. No significant association was found between HER-2 expression and patient survival. Results:It can be argued that HER-2 expression in gastric cancer patients is not significantly related to the survival rate of these patients. This finding can indicate the low value of HER-2 mutation as a prognostic marker in gastric cancer.
