Abstract:

Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors are a group of Neoplasms that are created from peptide and Amine producing cells of Neuroendocrine system. Data presented in pathology reports related to this Malignity determines the Prognosis and therapy trends of patients. So, accurate mention of standard factors is of high importance. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the indicators and compare them with standard indicators.Method & Material: This study is sectional methodology. All pathology reports that Neuroendocrine tumor was diagnosed according to it were studied during 2011 to 2015 from pathology unit at Shahid Sadooghi Hospital in Yazd in the form of census. 73 cases were finally taken out who were studied regarding pathologic standard factors including pathology diagnosis, anatomic origin of the tumor, the number of mitosis, immunohistochemical staining and staining type , determining Ki67 index, the status of necrosis, vascular_ nervous invasion. Then, the data are analyzed with SPSS version16 software. It has also been assured that the patient information is kept confidential. Results: Among 73 pathology reports under study(32 women with average age of 36.79 ± 7.29 years) and (41 men with average age of 39.61 ± 8 years) Small cell carcinoma with 46.6% of cases was the most tumor and The most common anatomic source was associated with breathing organ with 49.3% of cases. Number of mitosis in 31.5%, ki67 in 28.8%, necrosis status in 34.2%, and vascular attack and nervous round in 15.1% of pathology reports has been mentioned. In 74% of tumors, in addition to H&E staining, immunohistochemical staining was also done which was the most common type of staining in Chromogranin A.Conclusion: According to the results, most of pathologic reports of Neuroendocrine tumors lack one or more factors necessary for reporting. However, these factors are vital for deciding about therapy trend. Finally, using a pre-designed check list is recommended for comprehensive and detailed description of Histopathology for these tumors. Which will save a lot of time writing report and prevents defects caused by excessive workload and fatigue, and the proposed sample.
