Background: Hyperhidrosis (local hyperhidrosis) is a common and annoying dysfunction of the skin with an unknown cause, especially in stressful conditions. various methods are used to treat patients with focal hyperhidrosis, including surgical treatments such as thoracic sympathectomy. Our aim in this study was to evaluate the results of this surgery on patients with focal hyperhidrosis in Qazvin province from 2009-2016.Material and Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study that investigates the results and complications of thoracoscopic sympathectomy in treating patients with hyperhidrosis in Qazvin during 2009-2016. The data obtained from this study were analyzed using SPSS software version 20 and descriptive and analytical statistics including t-test, chi-square and ANOVA. The Friedman test was used to compare the mean of DLQI scores from operation, immediately after surgery, and six months after surgery, and for comparing them with Wilcxon Signed Ranks. Alpha was considered to be 0.05.Results: Of the 61 patients, 40 of them were males (65.6%). The oldest person was 36 and the youngest was 17, with an average of 24.57 (± 4.26), of which 36% were 24 or 25 years old. 60.7% of patients had undergone laparoscopy during the last two years. 40 of the subjects (65.6%) did not mention any history of the same illness in the family. 28 people (45.9%) mentioned their symptoms onset at the time of their childhood. 39.3% of patients suffered from hyperhidrosis in the axillary region. Also, 95.1% of the patients suffered in their hands palm. Among patients, 75.4% of cases were suffering from foot hyperhidrosis. 37 patients had only sweating in their hands and 3 only in axillae. 21 patients (34.4%) complained of hand palm and also axillary sweating, and 15 cases complained of sweating of hand and foot palms, and axillae (24.59%).In postoperative complications, 30 patients (49.2%) complained of postoperative dyspnea, which often mild. Five people needed a chest tube. 9 people suffered from gustatory sweating (14.8%). Compensatory hyperhidrosis was induced by back and waist sweating in 41 patients (67.2%). No one had any complaints of neuralgia after surgery. Only 3 (4.9%) patients complained of postoperative hand palm sweating. Horner s syndrome was observed in only three patients (4.9%) which resolved after 3 months.Conclusion: Thoracoscopic sympathectomy is a safe and effective method for treating hyperhidrosis in the palm of the hand, with very few complications and high success rates.
