The α-phosphorus ligand of 1-(p-tolyl)-2-(tri-p-tolyl- λ5-phosphanylidene) ethan-1-one (L) was prepared. The reactions of the ligand L with mercury (II) and cadmium (II) ions in (1:1) ratio by dry methanol as solvent resulted [(p-tolyl)3PCHCOC6H4CH3. CdCl2]2 C1 and [(p-tolyl)3PCHCOC6H4CH3 . HgBr2]2 C2. The solid state structure of C2 was detected by X-ray crystallography analysis and its Computational studies at DFT)B3LYP/6-31G*) level of theory are also reported.
