Abstract:

IntroductionBone is a dynamic tissue and it undergoes ongoing remodeling during the lifetime of an individual. Bone grafts are widely utilized clinically to augment critical sized bone defects and promote bone regeneration with cells or without them. There is therefore a critical need for synthetic bone graft materials capable of promoting successful bone regeneration.MaterialsFor this distance, gelatin and bioactive glass with strontium with each other could provide a good scaffold for bone tissue engineering. The bioactive glass with strontium nano powder was fabricated with sol-gel method. The gelatin with bioactive glass with strontium scaffold was fabricated by freeze drying method in 5 group. All samples were carefully analyzed by physicochemical analyses and their biocompability was assessed by performing MTT assay. The morphology of the prepared scaffolds was also evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).ResultsSEM pictures showed porous structure with interconnected pores. Incorporating Sr in the BG structure improved mechanical properties of the prepared samples. None of the scaffolds showed toxic results.ConclusionThis research demonstrated that BG can improve features like porousity, mechanical properties and bioactivity in scaffolds for bone tissue engineering
