Abstract:

Sponges are the oldest and simplest multicellular marine invertebrates, and are therefore considered as a model for research on evolutionary biology. These organisms also have the richest and most diverse new bioactive compounds among other marine organisms that could have extensive clinical and pharmaceutical applications, especially in the field of bone regenerative medicine. Since the sponge derived compounds show biodegradable and biocompatible features, they are Valuable candidate for tissue engineering. Due to the limited availability of resources, in order to achieve the biomass needed for different clinical studies, cultivation of sponges stem cells under laboratory conditions which could provide a new perspective for the use of marine invertebrates in biotechnology, basic research of biology and regenerative medicine. The aim of this study is to provide information on the biology and culture of stem cells of the marine sponge and to express its importance in order to provide suitable conditions for future applications in the field of biotechnology
