Abstract:
IntroductionThe bioinertness, makes surface treatments essential for titanium implants to improve their bioactivity or bone bonding ability. Air oxidation is a simple method for surface modification of titanium.MethodsIn this research, the effect of thermal oxidation of rigid titanium dental implant at 600˚C on its surface properties was studied.ResultsThe results of X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicated that the surface of heat treated titanium implants mainly covered by rutile nano particles. Also, wettability measurement indicated that hydrophilicity of titanium surface was increased by air oxidation. So it seems atmospheric oxidation of titanium dental implant improves its surface properties for in vivo implantation
