Abstract:

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) and Tri-calcium phosphate (TCP) are two common biomaterials that have been used as coatings on metallic implants like Ti alloys, Stainless Steels, etc in orthopedic and dentistry fields. These bio ceramics are used because of their excellent properties for repairing destroyed hard and soft tissues. HAp and TCP, respectively, has slow and fast dissolution in human body; So HAp is a biocompatible and TCP is a bioactive materials. Because of the mentioned properties of these two Calcium-Phosphate composites, a gradient coating-include both of these materials on metallic implants-will be useful. Because of all these points, three layers include, HAp layer, 50%HAp-50%TCP layer and TCP layer, were applied on substrate by Air Plasma Spaying (APS) technique. Granulated HAp and TCP powders were used for APS. When samples were ready, XRD and FESEM performed to reach the elementary and phase analysis and investigate the morphology and thickness of each layer of them. Finally, 3 layers (as mentioned) are applied to the Ti-6Al-4V Substrate successfully. Thus the bone can grow and penetrate to the coating and stabilize in a good way in living creature body.
