Abstract:

IntroductionTreatments for spinal cord injury have minimal efficacy due to low regenerative capacity of central nervous system. Macrophages and neutrophils produce various inflammatory cytokines which induce the apoptosis of neurons. Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, a spice known for its medicinal and anti-inflammatory properties. Recent researches in the synthesis of mesoporous silica materials have led to the development of a series of new delivery systems with various molecules. Therefore, curcumin was loaded in silica.ObjectivesThe aim of this study is to control the release of curcumin with silica SBA-15 for spinal cord injury. Method SBA-15 particles were prepared through a hydrothermal process .Briefly, pluronicP123 was dissolved into HCl solution. TEOS was then added to the solution at 35oC for 20h. Subsequently, the mixture was aged at 100oC under static conditions in an autoclave. Finally, the particles were calcined at 550oC to remove the surfactant. Therefore, Curcumin was loaded in SBA-15silica particles. ResultsAs a result, the scanning electron microscopy results showed that particles size was in the range of 100 to 250 nm. The release trend was investigated over several days in Invitro conditions, since this time has been proposed as a suitable time to control the secondary injury due to inflammatory cytokines. The assessment is done by spectrophotometer. ConclusionTo regulate the inflammatory environment, curcumin is used for inflammatory diseases in the nerve tissue. So, as a result for reducing inflammation of spinal cord injury we used curcumin is loaded in silica SBA-15.
