Abstract:

Glioblastoma is the most aggressive and lethal brain tumor. During decades the average survival time of these patients improved for few years by combination therapy including chemo and radio therapy associated with gene therapy. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play the critical role as key regulatory elements encoded by the genome. In a pathway, a miRNA can downregulate the expression of multiple genes. Since many studies showed that microRNAs expression is changed through cancer induction, developing novel approaches to identify and modulate miRNA pathways may result in a breakthrough for cancer treatment. In glioblastoma, microRNAs could use to overcome; cell proliferation, inhibition of cancer cell apoptosis and cancer drug resistance. Today’s combination of microRNAs and other effective genes like suicide or cytokines could be more common in gene therapy of glioblastoma
