Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the role of salicylic acid (SA), sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) and their combination in alleviating the lead stress-induced dicarbonyl stress in maize. Maize seeds were soaked in SA, NaHS and SA+NaHS for 12h and exposed to lead for 9 days. Lead stress caused a decrease in in growth parameters and an increase in methylglyoxal accumulation. SA, NaHS and SA+NaHS application increased glutathione content and modulated glyoxalase I activity and decreased methylglyoxal accumulation during lead stress. According to these results, SA and hydrogen sulfide play a protective role against lead stress through alleviation dicarbonyl stress.
