Synthesis, identification and theoretical studies of a new asymmetric bidentate Schiff base 2-(4-chloro- (benzylideneimine) thiophenol (L) and its complexes with general formula HgL(Ph), HgL2 and HgLX2 (X= Clˉ, Brˉ, Iˉ) were described. Authenticity of the ligand and its complexes has been established by microanalyses, FT-IR, UV-Vis, 1H NMR, 13 C NMR spectra and by molar conductivity measurements, the complexes are non-electrolytes in DMF. The electronic spectra of the complexes were recorded in DMF solution. 1H and 13C NMR spectra been studied in CDCl3. The HgLX2, PhHgL and HgL2 complexes have suggested to be pseudo-tetrahedral geometry.
