Abstract:
In order to identity the interface between bituminous and hydraulic layers of composite pavements, finite element simulations of the deflection under a standard axle were carried, out with different flaw geometries. Two types of simulations were considered: axis – symmetric and three-dimensional models. The pavement layers are considered as linear elastic and the interface behavior follows three different hypotheses: perfectly bonded, perfectly smooth and Coulomb friction. The results show that the deflection curve is modified by the interface quality and above all by the flaw extent. It is observed that the maximum deflection increases with the damaged surface and that the first derivative of the deflection curve is a suitable indicator of the flow localization.
