Abstract:

Metal complexes of Schiff bases have occupied a central role in the development of coordinationchemistry[1]. This situation is manifested by the huge number of publications rangingfrom the purely synthetic to modern physicochemical to biochemically relevant studies ofthese complexes[2]. Large numbers of Schiff bases have also been shown to exhibit a broadrange of biological activities, including antitumor, anti-bacterial, fungicidal and anticarcinogenicproperties [2]. In this study the solphonium salophen Schiff base complex ofCu(ІІ),(A-Cu)- and imidazolium salophen chloride Schiff base complex of Fe(ІІ),(B-Fe)+ wassynthesized and after characterization, the anticancer activity of them was investigated.Moreover, the anticancer activity of the ionic complex of these two cationic and anionic complex,(A-Cu)-(B-Fe)+ was investigated. The IC50 results show that the anticancer activity ofthe ionic complex, (A-Cu)-(B-Fe)+ is better than the anionic and cationic complexes in comparewith cisplatin.
