In this paper, exact closed form solutions have been derived for stress components and the stretches in thick cylindrical shells made of transversely isotropic hyperelastic material subjected to internal pressure in the plane strain condition. Hyperelastic behavior is modeledby using reinforced power law strain energy function. Material constants of strain energy function calculated from experimental data by least square method. Stress components and stretches have been obtained for axisymmetric radial condition. As a result, distributions ofextension ratio and stress components through the shell thickness have been presented. Sensitivity of stress components and displacement field to applied pressure and outer to inner radius ratio of vessel (structure parameter) are also investigated. Results show that outer to inner radius ratio has a great effect on the deformation field and stress components and is a useful parameter froma design point of view which can be tailored to specific applications to control the stress. It is also possible to find an optimum value for the mentioned ratio which the variation of stresses along the radial direction is minimized, yielding optimum use of material.
