Abstract:

This paper presents an experimental investigation into the compression behavior of shape memory alloy hybrid composites (SMAHC) subjected to quasi-static loading as it relates to the position effects of shape memory wire in glass continuous filament (GCF) direct roving epoxy composite. Three specimen of GCF direct roving reinforced epoxy composite filled with shape memory wire prepared and Compression strengths of three specimens are analyzed. Specimens were prepared by hand layup at room temperature for curing. For each specimen, four-layer GCF direct roving reinforced epoxy composite filled with eight shape memory wire for each forty five degree between second and third layer was prepared. The effect of shape memory wire on the maximum load bearing capacity of resultantspecimens after quasi static damage was experimentally investigated. Results of the compression test showed that GCF direct roving reinforced shape memory wire hybrid composites specimens have maximum force about 11.76 KN ,13.93 KN and 12.89 KN for SMA C1, SMA C2 and SMA C3 respectively, respect to 14 mm displacement and also have maximum stress about 118.7 Mpa ,140.6 Mpa and 130.1 Mpa for SMA C1, SMA C2 and SMA C3, respectively. Results of compression testing for three specimens of SMAHC showed thatcomposite specimens with four layer GCF direct roving reinforced epoxy composite filled with shape memory wire have higher load capacity than composite specimens without shape memory wire
