Abstract:
Application of various kinds of double-skin facades are growing in new architectural projects. The aim of these facades are mainly, increase the internal comfort and, to decrease energy consumption. In order to optimize the overall performance of double-skin facades, their detailed behavior needs to be examined specially during summer in hot weather condition. In this study the influence of the glass properties on the performance of double-skin facades has been modeled numerically. The modelling is done using the CFD (computational fluid dynamics) approach to assess the air movement within the ventilated facade channel. The outlet temperature offaçade, Rayleigh number; Nusselt number and solar heat flux have been calculated for six different facades formed by different glass combinations for a constant solar heat flux 1000 W/m2. To receive thermal load into the building the governing equations are solved andthermal field and the fluid field within the channel formed by the two layers of glass are determined.
