Abstract:

Distribution of stress in the bone adjacent to the implant has a great influence in implant duration and stability. There are several factors that affect the value of stress in the bone-implant interface, among those are aging, implant material and the angle of implant. In this study, a genuine mandible bone was simulated using computedtomography scan in Mimics Research (20.0) and the FEM analysis of the mandible bone was done in Abaqus CAE (16.14-3). A simulated model was created subjected to a vertical and horizontal load to investigate the differences in stress distribution on the cortical bone of the mandible for three age groups with upright and angulated implants. The model was simulated with a metal titanium implant, along with a ceramic zirconium implant. For all different simulated conditions, it was indicated that aging causes a significant decrease, and angulation of the implant increases the value of stress that is transferred to the bone by the implant.
