FORCIBLE - a new computer-automated tool (software) for BLEVE forecasting and impact assessment

A computer-automated tool (software) is presented, with which it is possible to forecast BLEVE and to assess the damage - in terms of blast wave, fire, missiles, and toxic dispersion - a BLEVE may cause. The software, named FORCIBLE (FOReCasting the Impact of Boiling Liquid expanding vapour Explosions), has been developed with a conscious effort to make it comprehensive (vis a vis its modelling capability, database, coverage, and graphics), user-friendly, and lucid. The package uses a novel concept of ‘damage rings’ in place of the conventional ‘damage radii’ which makes its forecasts more useful to the safety professionals than the conventional approach of consequence assessment.
