Evaluation of Radiation Protection in Raaheaseman Nuclear Medicine Center in Semnan According to ICRP Guidelines

Introduction: By the expansion of clinical nuclear medicine and its significance in the procedure of therapeutics and diagnostics of disease, presence of the unsealed radionuclide leading to the importance of radiation protection in nuclear medicine centers. So need for more control and survey of the environment in different parts of the nuclear medicine centers seems to be necessary more than before. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigation and observation of the principles of radiation protection in the nuclear medicine center of Semnan city and its compliance with reference guidelines.Methods: The dose rate in different regions of nuclear medicine center were measured at the end of each shift in 60 consecutive working days, and the average of the data for each room was compared to ICRP guidelines .Results: Using the statistical methods, it was determined that the highest and lowest mean dose rate, respectively, is related to the injection room (0.39 μSv/h) and waiting room (0.09 μSv/h) which, according to the relevant protocols, are acceptable.Conclusion: Measurement and analysis of data show that the principles of radiation protection in the nuclear medicine center of Semnan comply with the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) in quantitative and qualitative terms.
