Construction projects in Iran are increasing in number and investment due to population growth. Cost-efficient designing of quality and safe buildings is, therefore, of prime importance. A comparison is conducted between Iranian mainstream designing method based on Iranian design codes and proposed method based on Euro code. Design variants are presented and various cost components such as manufacturing, transport, erection, on-site reworks, etc are compared as well as quality and safety issues. Insights are proposed to consider when designing steel structures
